21st month

Caden turned 21 months old this sunday.. he is still down with the flu bug, what turned worst was that he had a fever last night out of the blue(despite hanging around at home for whole day) and it happened again today.. as a result, we only spent time with him at home, but most of the time he was pretty cranky and unwell..

At this point, Caden has already settled very well in sleeping alone in his room at nights, although occasionally he suffered from some night terrors (happened more frequent when PaPa is in NS!). He has also displayed some emotional attachment to us, more evident when he kept asking where is PaPa during his service in the NS for the past 3 weeks. He has also learnt how to jump successfully landing on both feet and walking up the stairs without aid..

At this point, I guess what matters most is to see him well again and running up and down like what he'd love to do as always...

A date with Dr Sim

Caden's fever went up to 38.4 this morning, so I decided to take urgent leave to bring him see Dr Sim (we also ran out of cough syrup). It's the first time I took him on a cab ride alone.. but he was obedient enough to stay still and quiet throughout the morning jam..

Somehow. we managed to be the first patient on the list (cos the rest of the mummies who came early did not bother to queue at the door). When its time to see Dr Sim, Caden hesitated to go into the room, but I tricked him in helping me to knock on his door..

As usual, he was defensive and fearful when Doc listens to his chest, checks his ears and especially throat (which is sore red).. Dr Sim commented that Caden has developed very well in his speech at his age (21 mths < 2 yrs), and being a boy.. He mentioned that this development is pretty rare for children as he witnessed Caden talking to me in short phases, communicating his needs.. its definitely something that we should be proud of, but at this point what matters most is to see him getting well again..

I am taking this chance to read up more on the "Terrible 2" stage to overcome his tantrums, since I reckon his past behavioural development seems to suggest that..

We are both sick..

Caden and Mummy started to feel unwell today.. bad news, cos PaPa has to continue to serve the nation this week till Wed, and hopefully nothing turns too bad for Caden (otherwise I have to bring him see Doc Sim myself..). I am not sure if it is because Caden feels unwell, that's why he has been throwing tantrums today, losing his temper when things don't go his way, beating us (yes, including me and PaPa, Kimi was not spared either).. and crying after he realised he was wrong from our scolding.. hoepfully he will behave better after he felt better.. before he went to bed tonight, he was running a slight fever.. it will be mummy's long night alone again..

This week

Finally Mummy is able to come home on time to catch a glimpse of Caden's awake hours since Monday night (of course at the expense of all the taxi trips!).. Caden's sleeping hours has somehow been delayed lately (no sure if my MIL wasn't strict with him).. I decided to enforce my discipline on Caden in PaPa's absence. Caden on Monday night was crying pretty badly when i left him alone in his room after his milk feed (as he was asking for my company).. I thought by ignoring him, he will fall asleep by himself.. but he came out of the room, choking on his tears and then vomited alot - which is a real nightmare for me - cos I was dead tired from work, not done my shower, had to pacify him, clean him up, clean up the floor mess.. etc.. I then scolded Caden to stop giving me nonsense and go to sleep with Grandma.

Tuesday night, again, he refused to go to sleep at 945pm, said he wanted to continue playing in the living room.. I had to drag him into my room, read a book and then switched off the lights. And again, he was climbing up and down the bed in darkness, sitting and standing on the bed, showing no signs of sleeping.. And again, I wanted so badly to go for my shower, I had no choice but to scold Caden again.. telling him that when's its time to sleep, its time to sleep, no more monkey business..

Tonight, again, he was pretty demanding during bedtime, I have to raise my voice at him to tell him to stop fidgeting and stay still to sleep.. thereafter, I walked out of the room and went ahead with my shower.. when I was done, he was already in the slumberland..

But each time, when I carry Caden back to his own room, I will send an apology softly through his ears.. and I know he doesn't hold it against me as each morning, he always greeted me with happiness when I woke him up!

Our Advertisement is out on Simply Her!

Finally, our advertisement have been published in Feb's Simply Her issue.. they have done up a diary write-up for me (which is ficticious !!) . I have got a ex-colleague who managed to spot us in the magazine.. One of the pictures with Caden was not published.. which we think maybe its quite a waste cos Caden is the most photogenic one in the whole lot..

PaPa is back for the weekend

Finally PaPa is back for this weekend.

He came back late only at 730pm on Sat night. Nonetheless Caden was happy to see him. We spent the whole of Sunday at home, except for the morning where we dropped by Ikea to run some errands.

Caden has now become so expressive till he managed to convey the message that he wants to go downstairs for a walk. He surprised me on Sat morning when he said,"Mummy, walk walk, stairs" - meaning mummy walk walk downstairs. And he took his shoes to ask me to put on for him.. This morning, the moment he woke up, he told PaPa the same thing again - without even thinking of having his usual morning milk!

Caden has also now demands to perform his own tasks - like making his milk, where he wants to press the thermal flask to get hot water, pouring his milk powder, and closing the cap to the bottle. Even taking his own laundry and asking us to carry him so that he can put into the washing machine, switching on the lights, opening the door with our house keys, opening the car door before he gets into the car.. he will kick up a BIG fuss if we do not assist him! Hopefully this sign of independence will turn out well as he grows older, but for now, we give in to him most of the times since he is still coughing rather badly this week..

Our first night

PaPa has left for national service in the wee hours of the morning today. When I made the usual morning milk for Caden, he asked me,"PaPa where?" He is now getting more expressive with his speech, which is good, least we know what he wants. I have explained to Caden that PaPa will not be back home till Sat night, so he needs to be a good boy.

Tonight when I reached home, Caden was as usual happy to see me. Grandma has kindly brought over dinner for me and Caden happily sat with me throughout the whole dinner as he was eyeing on my rice! Grandma commented that he was looking for me the moment they reached home earlier this evening. Which really warms my heart.. Caden's fever has finally not recur for the past 24hrs, but he is still having a rather bad cough, tonight he vomitted in his sleep again.. hopefully it will clear up by this sunday as I won't have many chances seeing him next week..

PaPa's Black Tuesday

PaPa has hit his new car at our neighbour kerb today. He was trying to save a bowl of Ban Mian from falling off the plastic bag (so that it will not spill all over the car) while driving. However, during this split second, PaPa did not keep a lookout at the road and the car crashed onto the kerb! The impact was quite great as the whole front bumper came off and Mummy and Caden was totally shocked with what has happened. Caden even dropped his plastic container that he was holding on and kept very quiet throughout. Mummy went out of the car together with Caden and looked at the state of the bang. Caden then said to PaPa, "PaPa, drop! PaPa drop!" (he was referring to the front bumper which came hanging loose).. Sigh.. lesson learnt for the safest driver - no matter what happens in the car, watch out for the road.
