Day 3 - 30th May 2012 - Taipei

We started our 3rd day with Taiwan's local breakfast. I have approached our hotel staff and asked for a recommendation for us to try out their traditional taiwanese breakfast. We were directed to try out their dou jiang and shao bing at some Huashan Market Building, which honestly, we didn't know that it was so famous.

As we stayed in Taipei Main station area, it only took us a stop to reach Shandao Temple station. At exit 5, we saw that Huashan Market Building which the hotel staff spoke about. There was this funny  smell as we entered into the quiet building and we had to climb a flight of steps (again) to reach level 2. To our surprise, the entire food court was crowded with people and the only stall that was in operation was that doujiang stall which we were asked to try. So it turns out to be the all-time favorite Fu Hang Dou Jiang:

Operating Hours: 530 am to 1030 am daily

As the chinese characters on their menu board were all in the complex format (fang ti zhi), I had a hard time trying to make out what's what. In order to place my order, I followed what the locals queuing ahead of me had placed. In the end, we ended up with some good choices - Dang bing (egg prata), You Tiao (must try - very crisp), Dou Jiang (comes in a thick texture) and shao bing (too dry for our liking). The Dang Bing was so good that we placed additional 2 more portions after we finished one. It wasn't as oily as the pratas that we have in SG, so this is really light and good for breakfast.

After breakfast, we proceeded to Baby Boss and took a shuttle bus near Zhongxiao Fuxing station (the shuttle bus stop is located outside a local taiwanese bank - Take Exit #5 (In front of Land Bank), take the Free Shuttle Bus, ‘Living Mall Shuttle Bus’, and get off at ‘Living Mall’). What we didn't know was that the shuttle bus was in operation only from 10.30am onwards, so we ended up standing outside the bank for almost 25mins since Baby Boss started at 10am, so thankfully we were delayed by the breakfast, otherwise, we had to even wait for a longer time.

We had pre-booked our entrance tickets into Baby Boss in SG. Actually, given that we visited during weekday, it may not be necessary to do a pre-booking. We found out that mothers were given free entrance into Baby Boss in the month of May in celebration of Mother's day, so both Winnie and myself were delighted with the offer (initially we planned to go shopping instead to save the entrance fees).

The boys first started with the Gas attendant task. In every station, the in-charge will brief them about their responsibilities for that occupation and teach them how to go about in performing their roles.

Ethan is really serious cleaning the car
At the end of the job done, the kids are given their 'salary' (which resembles the dollar notes in monopoly) and they can move on to the next destination of their choice.

These are the roles they played:
2) Fireman

 3) Farmer

 4) Astronaut
It's fun walking on the moon

Elliot : It's hard to keep the helmet in place

the boys came out with flower rings for photo shoots

5) Traffic Police

  6) Banker
 7) Archaeologist (they enjoyed digging in the sand in search for dinosaur's bones)

8) Pilot (they enjoyed this session most)
the boys told me that this teacher is really humorous

We only planned to spend about 5 hours in Baby Boss but in the end, spent a total of 8 hours as our boys simply couldn't have enough of fun in this place. It's a place where children learn more about different occupations and what they do for each occupation. Being a weekday, I was glad that there were not too many visitors then. Each station can only accommodate about 9 to 12 children per session and it takes about 40-45mins to complete per session. Some stations (like pizza making, fire dept, spaceship, Airline, etc) were very popular, so it would be advisable to review and plan the time schedule in advance.

The boys loved to roleplay pilot, partly because the in-charge was extremely humorous and managed to made the kids laughed a lot during the session. Despite leaving Taipei for almost a week now, they are still talking about the fun they had at Baby Boss.

It was almost 6pm when we decided to leave Baby Boss. We took the shuttle bus back to Zhongxiao Fuxing statiion and headed towards Breeze Center (cos Winnie wanted to check out the Tokyu Hands store there). While we were waiting for Winnie, we had a quick dinner at the food court which serves fairly nice udon at only NTD 100 per bowl. The boys asked to have sushi and PaPa accompanied them to eat them (which costs us approx SGD 22 just to fill the 2 boys' stomachs!).

After dinner, we dropped by Taipei 101 (didn't travel to that building) given that it's on the same MTR line as Zhongxiao Fuxing. As it was drizzling and not too late, we decided to check out Raohe night market.

Tried this fruit juice store, which sells smoothie too
The mango mix we ordered is very nice
Both Caden and Ethan were probably tired after the Baby Boss activities and started to turned cranky. Ethan asked to be carried where eventually he fell asleep quickly. Caden was too cranky and we decided to speed walk the night market and catch a cab back to the hotel. So basically we didn't try any food there (the nicer ones that attracted us had long queues..). The crowd in this night market comprises of younger group (looks like college/uni students) and the clothes that they sell are typically smaller sizes and very young stuff.

We packed up our luggage on the same night back in hotel and parked one of our luggages in Cosmo hotel (where we will be staying upon return from Hualien).
